NEW: DREAMS IN THE FIRE

New this week is Dreams in the Fire, a collection of fiction by present and past members of the Robert E. Howard United Press Association. My contribution is "I am a Martian Galley Slave!", my Sword & Planet -style tribute to men's adventure magazines, Fight Club & Paul Muni. You can buy a copy at the Howard House gift shop or, if you can't get to Cross Plains for Howard Days, buy it here.

Here's the write up from the Lulu listing:

A unique collection of voices, an amazing range of fiction and verse, all inspired by the great fantasy and adventure writer, Robert E. Howard (1906-1936), and written by the members of the Robert E. Howard United Press Association! Featuring stories and poems by Charles Gramlich, James Reasoner, Rob Roehm, Barbara Barrett, Robert Weinberg, Christopher Fulbright, Frank Coffman, Jimmy Cheung, Patrick R. Berger, Danny Street, Angeline Hawkes, Amy Kerr, Mark Finn, David A. Hardy, Chris Gruber, Gary Romeo, Morgan Holmes, and Don Herron, with an introduction by Rusty Burke. It's a veritable Who's Who of Howard Heads! Dreams in the Fire: Stories and Poems Inspired by Robert E. Howard is a benefit book created by members past and present of the Robert E. Howard United Press Association (REHupa). Proceeds from the sale of this book go to Project Pride for their continued upkeep and promotion of the Robert E. Howard House.

Meanwhile, another tale of mine has appeared in Mystic Signals 9. The title is "Vikar's Doom, it's my re-working of the story of Starkad & King Vikar from the point of my fictional creation, Ulf Blood-eye. Here's the write up from CreateSpace:

Combines the Jan 2011 issue of The Lorelei Signal and the Feb issue of Sorcerous Signals as well as two print exclusive stories:

Boleyn by Ashlee Rowe - A young woman seeks the aid of two witches to make her a love potion and thereby one of the most powerful women in the world.

Vikar's Doom by Dave Hardy - A Viking warrior learns that no man may deny his nature, whether it be with the trolls or the gods.

Last but not least, keep watching this space for when the Summer 2011 issue of Dark Worlds Comes out. It will have art by MD Jackson, stories by Everette Bell, Joshua Reynolds, Joel Jenkins, Jack Mackenzie, GW Thomas, Peter Welmerink, and my own tale "Curse of the Black Kurgan", a Sword & Sorcery tale set on the Cossack steppe in the 1500s.

On a sad note, last week Catherine Jeffrey Jones passed away. Known for outstanding fantasy art Jones was one of the great illustrators of Robert  E. Howard's work during the Howard Boom of the '70s. Jones could summon visions of intense wonder and beauty. Rest in peace.

Finally, the Dark Worlds fantasy collection, Swords of Fire will be coming to Amazon soon. Look for the follow up, Swords of Fire 2, too.
